Marcelo Bielsa is one of the most famous and special soccer managers of our times. His weird (for us) tactics usually leave people hanging with their mouths open.
However, nobody can deny he’s authentic and has his own opinion.
Not long ago, he started building a hotel for his old team’s training camp.
This is what he had to say about how soccer has evolved and what is important nowadays:
I believe it is the responsibility of all of us to be concerned that the results have become more important than the beauty of the game. I do not know if the ratio is good but it’s more or less like the situation of our planet. We are not at all interested in protecting it and our children will pay the consequences of our actions. Same thing in soccer, we are destroying the game, and future generations will see the negative effects. With the commercialisation of soccer, the results have become the most important thing. But the most appealing element of the game has always been the spectacle it offers. Those who have power are responsible for this. Coaches, owners, media, and even fans.
Do you agree?
